A New MMORPG in Development: Where Ancient Online: Remastered Stands in 2026
Ancient Online: Remastered is a new MMORPG in closed alpha in 2026. Which stage it is at, what we can say about a release date and where to follow it.
Ancient Online: Remastered is a new MMORPG in development: a free-to-play, classic Eastern fantasy world that an independent studio is building in Unreal Engine 5.8 for PC and mobile. If you are looking for new and upcoming MMORPGs, this post tells you plainly where this one stands in 2026: what kind of game it is, which stage it is at, what we can and cannot say about a release date, and where to follow it.
Ancient Online: Remastered is in development; it is currently in closed alpha and no release date has been announced. The systems described here may change before launch.
What kind of MMORPG is it?
Ancient Online: Remastered is a classic Eastern fantasy MMORPG with three rival empires (Shinsoo, Chunjo and Jinno), six classes, open-world PvP, a player economy and characters that grow through effort. The maximum level is 99 and there are no seasonal resets. We build the client in Unreal Engine 5.8 and write the game server ourselves; the server decides the outcome of movement and combat. Which stage is it at today?
As of 2026 the game is in closed alpha. The "Alpha I" label on the website marks the first stage of that closed alpha: a test build, not the finished game.
| Question | Today |
|---|---|
| Stage | Closed alpha ("Alpha I") |
| Who can play | Players who hold an access key |
| Tested on | Windows and Android |
| Target platforms | Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS |
| Payment model | Free to play; power is not sold for real money |
| Release date | Not announced |
An access key lets you download the game from the website and create an account inside the game. How it works, step by step, is in the closed alpha guide.
When will it be released?
The honest answer: no release date has been announced. We are not naming a day, a season or a year, because a date we cannot keep would help no one. Our rule is that a system opens when it is mature and has passed testing, and the same goes for the game as a whole.
When a date is settled, we will announce it first on this website and in our Discord community. Until then, any release date you read elsewhere does not come from us.
What may change before launch?
An alpha exists so that things can change. Before launch you should expect:
- Systems and balance: Skills, numbers and rules are adjusted according to what testing shows.
- Content: Areas, quests and items may be added, reworked or removed.
- Platforms: Five platforms are targeted; today the development build is tested on Windows and Android devices.
- Alpha progress: Nothing has been announced yet about whether alpha characters and items will be kept at launch.
Two things do not change: power is not sold for real money, and the maximum level stays at 99 with no seasonal resets. We explain them in our no pay-to-win post and in our design pledge.

How do you judge a new MMORPG? A short checklist
Whichever upcoming MMORPG you are looking at, four questions tell you most of what you need to know. Here they are, with our answers:
- Payment model: Is the game free to play, and what does the shop sell? Here the game is free to play; the in-game shop only offers costumes, appearances and convenience items, and none of them grant combat power, experience or in-game currency.
- Platforms: Which devices is the game actually tested on, and which are only planned? Here the targets are Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS; the tested ones are Windows and Android. Device specs are on the system requirements page.
- Language: Can you play in your own language? The game and the official website target 30 languages.
- Test stage: Is it an alpha, a beta or a finished game, and how do you get in? Here it is a closed alpha that you enter with an access key, and keys are not for sale.
